Men’s fashion and bag styles for SS’21

When you look at some of the trends from the men’s fashion collections for this spring and summer, the utility trend; bomber jackets and 1970’s retro jackets and trousers, designed with many jacket and trouser pockets, you’d think there wouldn’t be a need for men’s bags. However, keeping the silhouettes sharp, bags for men are very much part of finishing the look. Here’s a guide to the bags to wear in SS’21.

But before we dive into 10 men’s fashion bags, from both high street to designer, to show you the shapes, styles and colours to keep your eyes out for, here’s a quick round up of the men’s fashion trends for spring and summer 2021:

  • military man about town – jackets and trousers high on function but with stylish tailoring
  • out goes skinny, in comes wide legged trousers – as per the women’s trend for SS’21
  • team your wider legged trousers with a bomber jacket – from pastel to bright tones, take your pick
  • it’s spring so welcome the return of the trench coat – and like the trousers, oversize it
  • as we’re covering summer fashion, the shorts are bermuda-style
  • and if none of the above grabs you, go retro ’70s – think browns, yellows and oranges with collars

High utility

If you don’t want to wear the high function military jackets and trousers why not look to your bag to do the styling? On the left from Mango, a multi-pocket nylon backpack with faux leather trims for £69.99. For something smaller, on the right, from Zara a rigid crossbody pouch that is ideal to store your mobile phone to keep it from bulking out any pockets. Price £19.99.

Retro styling

If you need a backpack to offset any 1970’s look, Burberry offers a treat in the Rocco monogram print backpack, price £950. Or if the brown palette isn’t for you but you want a nod to some retro styling, the Edoh leather crossbody bag from Bally will nail it, at £620.

Colour blast

Bright colours, even at the acid level of intensity were spotted at Tom Ford, Versace (which we can always rely upon for the colour pop) and Burberry. If you don’t fancy wearing an outfit in such a large expanse of bold colour, here are two bags to do the heavy colour lifting; a crossbody bag from AAPE for £45 or a backpack from Kenzo at £230.

Cross your heart

And to keep your tailored lines, free from bulk, whether oversized or flared, the bag of the season is the crossbody. Two very different options here; a structured option on the left from MCM, the Millie Visetos crossbody bag, price £495 or a more street style crossbody bag from Indispensable, the Black Buddy Aurora shoulder bag is £60.

Name it in…

…two! For those of you who can’t resist proudly displaying your chosen designer’s label, here are two bags to navigate the impending SS’21 season. For those who like to carry their bag, from Saint Laurent, a Rive Gauche black and white tote bag, £905 or on the right, a small sized messenger back from Balenciaga, price £895.

There you have ten bags, priced from £19.99 to £950, from high street to designer which will rock one of the key men’s fashion trends for SS’21. Whether it’s about complimenting suit tailoring or a softer bermuda short, there’s a bag shape or style in this collection to rock this spring and summer. What will your bag style be?
